Clustering is a type of classification under optimization problems, which is considered as a critical area of data mining. Medical clustering problem is a type of unsupervised learning in data mining. This work present a hybridization between our previous proposed Iterative Simulated Annealing (ISA) and Modified Great Deluge (MGD) algorithms for medical clustering problems. The aim of this work is to produce an effective algorithm for partitioning N objects into K clusters. The idea of the hybridization between MGD and ISA is to incorporate the strength of one approach with the strength of the other hoping a more promising algorithm. Also this combination can help to diverse the search space. Experimental results obtained two way of calculating the minimal distance that have been tested on six benchmark medical datasets show that, ISA-MGD is able to outperform some instances of MGD and ISA algorithms.

Many clustering algorithms with different methodologies are subjected to be common techniques and main step in many applications in the computer science world. The need of adapting efficient clustering algorithm increases in critical applications (i.e. wireless sensors networks). Utilizing the Fuzzy Logic power; Fuzzy C-mean (FCM) clustering has a major role in most clustering applications. But in many cases, the result of FCM is considered to be non-complete clustering strategy. This paper adapted the FCM algorithm to enable of generating clusters with equal sizes. Also, scattered points that are located far away from all clusters are grouped out of clusters. Another modification is to localize specific points that have ability to locate in more than one cluster; hence this has a non-negligible importance in some fields such as cellular communications.

Objective: This study assesses utilisation of university health centre services in the past 6 months and perceived barriers towards utilisation among university students. Methods: Using cross-sectional design, a self-administered questionnaire was collected from 240 students. Frequencies were used to illustrate students’ utilisation, health conditions they presented with, and their perception of barriers. Results: Health centre services were used by less than half of the students in the past 6 months, with the most frequent health conditions for utilisation being influenza (23.5%), headache (14.7%) and abdominal pain (11.8%). About 64.6% of the students were satisfied with health centre services. However, unavailability of drugs (22.5%), medical staff/student relationships (17.1%), medical staff and doctors’ experience (10%), inadequate referral services (8.3%), and long waiting time (5%) were barriers perceived by students to affect their utilisation. Conclusion: This study highlights university students’ health-seeking behaviour that will help to promote health among Jordanian university students.

Background Asthma is a chronic illness of the airways that can cause a persistent cough. The illness affects a significant population of young people worldwide and can affect their ongoing quality of life. Aim To explore Jordanian adolescents’ knowledge and attitudes to asthma. Method A cross-sectional research design was used with a convenience sample of 302 adolescents from six schools in northern Jordan, who completed a self-reported knowledge and attitude survey. Results Although the adolescents had an adequate knowledge level about asthma, several areas of knowledge deficit were identified and some negative attitudes were demonstrated. No significant association was found between adolescents’ level of knowledge and their attitudes to adolescents with asthma. Conclusion Jordanian adolescents need more educational programmes about living with life‑changing chronic illnesses such as asthma, and about how the knowledge and positive attitudes of peer groups can normalise the illness for the affected person, enhancing their quality of life.

Older adults are at a higher risk of being diagnosed with long-term conditions than those in other age groups. The aim of this study was to examine long‑term conditions associated with, and predictive of, primary health care (PHC) service use among older adults living in the Irbid Governorate of Jordan over the previous one, six and 12 months. Cross‑sectional data were collected from 190 adults aged 60 years and above. Face-to-face interviews were conducted within the catchment areas associated with three comprehensive healthcare centres. Results show that rates of PHC service use among older adults with long-term conditions are high, with heart conditions, diabetes and hypertension the most consistent predictors of service use.

A cross-sectional study (n = 108) was conducted to assess medication adherence levels among people with mental illness in Jordan using the Arabic version of Morisky Medication Adherence Scale. The findings showed a significant negative correlation between patients’ level of adherence, frequency of admissions, and relapses per year and a negative correlation between adherence level and frequency of follow up appointments per month. Nonadherence to antipsychotic medication in Jordan is very high and the reasons for this need to be further explored as nonadherence negatively effects the global burden of disease associated with mental illness, particularly in developing countries.

Hypertension and pre-hypertension are major contributors to morbidity. Early detection of hypertension and pre-hypertension among adolescents may prevent their complications. A cross-sectional study was conducted to estimate the prevalence of hypertension and pre-hypertension among adolescents attending government high schools in Nablus city, Palestine and to identify associated factors, in a sam-ple of 487 adolescents aged 16-18 years in the year 2016. Associations between hypertension, pre-hypertension and known contributing factors were analyzed with Chi-square tests. The prevalence of hypertension and pre-hypertension were 59.2%. Body Mass Index (BMI) was significantly associated with a greater prevalence of hypertension (normal weight 13.1%, overweight 33.3%, and obesity 54.8 %) and pre-hypertension (normal weight 40.4%, overweight 47.4% and obesity 40.5%). The results confirmed a prevalence of hypertension and pre-hypertension among adolescents. Of known contributing factors studied, gender, age, BMI, and family history of hypertension were significantly associated with a greater prevalence of hypertension or pre-hypertension.

This paper, proposes a new algorithm for recognition of facial expressions, called ER7ST. Studied expressions are anger, disgust, fear, happiness natural, sadness and surprise. Proposed method is based on extraction of the essential objects, then finding of characteristic points positions of each object. Detected points slant and its average are calculated on the basis of fixed points. Mug database is considered as data source for training and testing. We collect set of images. ER7ST is designed to define the work area of face that contains characteristic expressions, which its centre is face centre and its dimensions are 8×16 supposed squares. ER7ST algorithm discovers the essential objects depending on the coordinate of minimum and maximum points of each object in defined area, considering the length of object is larger than the major-axis of formed ellipse on studied object. Object gradient is ranked between [-60, +60] degrees. Our algorithm detects Convex Hull points upon detected objects and then its slant is calculated. Slant vectors are formed; some calculations are done to be a good input to network. Net contains input, three hidden layers and output layer. After training on set of faces and testing on new data, the recognition rate was promising. Algorithm can be maintained with different types of images and it did not need to scale. Finally, recognition rate is ranked between 60% and 95%, experiments have shown that method was efficient and results were very encouraging in this field, especially network can be trained on new situations of expressions.

A geodesic is the real world analog of a straight line. Where a straight line on a flat piece of paper minimizes the distance between two points, a geodesic minimizes the distance between two points on any surface; be it flat or not.Supposing that we have a surface in spacegiven by the equation z = f (x, y).The search for a geodesic line on this surface, or more generally in the plan provided by an arbitrary metric, may be made by solving the coupled differential second orderequations of Euler-Lagrange system. More precisely, the search of the shortest path connecting two given points may be made by solving that system for a specific initial velocity. In this paper we determine the geodesic lines corresponding the metric of type g =(dx2 + dy2) for f (x, y) defines positive. Starting from a metric of this type, we determine the Euler- Lagrange system correspondence; its solutions are geodesics. We designed geodesics and the shortest path for the given metric and a specific function f (x, y). We will need to determine the appropriate initial velocity for the system's numerical resolution of two differential equations of second order. Therefore, we are providing a suitable method for this.
