The continuous increase of traffic congestion in urban areas demands a high reliable traffic management system for monitoring traffic flows and providing key input parameters for predicting traffic conditions. Video sequences of road scenes are increasingly used in several contexts with an emphasis on automation, notably for tracking moving objects in a static background. This paper presents a multiple-vehicle surveillance model developed using Matlab Software for detecting and tracking moving vehicles, and collecting traffic data for different lengths of region of interest (ROI), ranging between 5 and 30 m. The model was validated using simulated video scenes, designed in VISSIM with known traffic data. Measurements from model were compared with actual measurements reported by VISSIM and results confirmed exact match of vehicle counts. Statistical t-tests of mean speed differences confirmed the model validity at 5% significance level, especially with ROI length of 10 and 15 m. Validation of headway measurements was also confirmed for optimum ROI lengths. The model processes one second in video clips of frame rate 20 frames/sec in 0.96 sec. This is appropriate for real-time applications to yield traffic parameters including vehicle speed, headway, count, incident detection, queue detection, etc. However, the model was validated assuming no lane changes and no overlap of vehicles, and, hence, model validity is limited to these assumptions. It is recommended that this model be validated using real-world videos containing noises such as light variation, shadows, vibrations due to wind, skewed views, lane changes, and/or trucks that obscure full view of vehicles

Upon the view of this work, industrial floor is a vital structure due to its relation to quality of production, labor comfort, and human health. Flooring costs may reach 20% of single-story building construction expenditure, and the consumption of concrete for floors may come to 40% - 50% of the total size of concrete. Thereby, the efficient design of floor will reduce materials consumption and labor, and will increase the endurance of the floor. Fiber reinforcement reduces the thickness of the subfloor about 20% - 30%, hence enabling to reduce the consumption of cement and fillers. The use of fiber meshes will enable to save 30% - 40% of steel. Despite the flexible use of fiber in concrete reinforcement saves effort and money, still fiber reinforced concrete is lacking additional regulations in Jordan.

In this work, a new municipal biocell with new operation and waste management is proposed. The proposed system is biocell that is built gradually when the waste is being disposed. Different from conventional disposal at landfills, waste is put between “hydrophobic bricks” that are perforated permeable containments filled up with porous dumping material such as styrofoam. Genetic algorithm is used to optimize a transfer function that represents input of biogas percentages and output solutions for daily mass transfer rates for biogas mixture from which mass and volume of biogas within the biocell time of service are calculated. Transfer function is obtained by fitting dynamic input-output data to the input-output solutions. Input-output data are encoded to chromosomes (1, 0 digits). These chromosomes are subjected to genetic processes as crossover and mutations. Then a process of evaluation takes place. The evaluation process entails an objective function that evaluates the squared difference between experimental and calculated values. After the chromosomes are being evaluated, they are either selected for more iteration or decoded to the solutions. The decoding process is performed on optimal chromosomes to obtain optimal solutions and required optimal transfer function. Consequently, the mass and volume of biogas within the landfill time of service are determined for any ratio of CH4:CO2 in biocell.

Stone wastes from cutting chainsaws in stone crushers have a negative effect on the environment. The reuse of these wastes is achieved in this study, as the fine sand of silica was replaced with stone wastes from Ajloun and Madaba with the following by-weight percentages: 0%, 10%, 25% and 100%. Standard compressive strength tests were performed at the Royal Scientific Society, Jordan to check the compressive strength of the new mixes. The tests performed in this paper are conducted on the following samples: (50 * 50 * 50 mm) mortar samples, (150 * 150 * 150 mm) concrete cubes and (150 * 300 mm) concrete cylinders. Tests are performed for the periods of 3, 7 and 28 days. The results show that the use of Ajloun stone wastes increased the compressive strength of mortar by 13%, while it was reduced by 3% by using Madaba stone wastes. In concrete cubes, the use of Ajloun stone wastes increased compressive strength by 37%, while it was reduced by 20% by using Madaba stone wastes. In concrete cylinders, the use of Ajloun stone wastes increased the compressive strength by 32%, while it was decreased by 23% by using Madaba stone wastes. Consequently, Ajloun stone wastes are suggested to be used as an alternative to fine silica and they proved their quality through the basic aggregate tests. The increase in compressive strength is attributed to Ajloun stone being of least absorption of liquids, as well as to the bonding force between the inner particles of the stone.
