Older adults are at a higher risk of being diagnosed with long-term conditions than those in other age groups. The aim of this study was to examine long‑term conditions associated with, and predictive of, primary health care (PHC) service use among older adults living in the Irbid Governorate of Jordan over the previous one, six and 12 months. Cross‑sectional data were collected from 190 adults aged 60 years and above. Face-to-face interviews were conducted within the catchment areas associated with three comprehensive healthcare centres. Results show that rates of PHC service use among older adults with long-term conditions are high, with heart conditions, diabetes and hypertension the most consistent predictors of service use.

A cross-sectional study (n = 108) was conducted to assess medication adherence levels among people with mental illness in Jordan using the Arabic version of Morisky Medication Adherence Scale. The findings showed a significant negative correlation between patients’ level of adherence, frequency of admissions, and relapses per year and a negative correlation between adherence level and frequency of follow up appointments per month. Nonadherence to antipsychotic medication in Jordan is very high and the reasons for this need to be further explored as nonadherence negatively effects the global burden of disease associated with mental illness, particularly in developing countries.

Hypertension and pre-hypertension are major contributors to morbidity. Early detection of hypertension and pre-hypertension among adolescents may prevent their complications. A cross-sectional study was conducted to estimate the prevalence of hypertension and pre-hypertension among adolescents attending government high schools in Nablus city, Palestine and to identify associated factors, in a sam-ple of 487 adolescents aged 16-18 years in the year 2016. Associations between hypertension, pre-hypertension and known contributing factors were analyzed with Chi-square tests. The prevalence of hypertension and pre-hypertension were 59.2%. Body Mass Index (BMI) was significantly associated with a greater prevalence of hypertension (normal weight 13.1%, overweight 33.3%, and obesity 54.8 %) and pre-hypertension (normal weight 40.4%, overweight 47.4% and obesity 40.5%). The results confirmed a prevalence of hypertension and pre-hypertension among adolescents. Of known contributing factors studied, gender, age, BMI, and family history of hypertension were significantly associated with a greater prevalence of hypertension or pre-hypertension.

This paper, proposes a new algorithm for recognition of facial expressions, called ER7ST. Studied expressions are anger, disgust, fear, happiness natural, sadness and surprise. Proposed method is based on extraction of the essential objects, then finding of characteristic points positions of each object. Detected points slant and its average are calculated on the basis of fixed points. Mug database is considered as data source for training and testing. We collect set of images. ER7ST is designed to define the work area of face that contains characteristic expressions, which its centre is face centre and its dimensions are 8×16 supposed squares. ER7ST algorithm discovers the essential objects depending on the coordinate of minimum and maximum points of each object in defined area, considering the length of object is larger than the major-axis of formed ellipse on studied object. Object gradient is ranked between [-60, +60] degrees. Our algorithm detects Convex Hull points upon detected objects and then its slant is calculated. Slant vectors are formed; some calculations are done to be a good input to network. Net contains input, three hidden layers and output layer. After training on set of faces and testing on new data, the recognition rate was promising. Algorithm can be maintained with different types of images and it did not need to scale. Finally, recognition rate is ranked between 60% and 95%, experiments have shown that method was efficient and results were very encouraging in this field, especially network can be trained on new situations of expressions.

A geodesic is the real world analog of a straight line. Where a straight line on a flat piece of paper minimizes the distance between two points, a geodesic minimizes the distance between two points on any surface; be it flat or not.Supposing that we have a surface in spacegiven by the equation z = f (x, y).The search for a geodesic line on this surface, or more generally in the plan provided by an arbitrary metric, may be made by solving the coupled differential second orderequations of Euler-Lagrange system. More precisely, the search of the shortest path connecting two given points may be made by solving that system for a specific initial velocity. In this paper we determine the geodesic lines corresponding the metric of type g =(dx2 + dy2) for f (x, y) defines positive. Starting from a metric of this type, we determine the Euler- Lagrange system correspondence; its solutions are geodesics. We designed geodesics and the shortest path for the given metric and a specific function f (x, y). We will need to determine the appropriate initial velocity for the system's numerical resolution of two differential equations of second order. Therefore, we are providing a suitable method for this.

Finding correspondences automatically from a pair of un-calibrated images is a challenging phase in 3D reconstruction. Two proposed methods based on the existing SIFT and SURF key point detector and descriptor are introduced in this work to find correspondences automatically from high resolution pair of images for aerial scenes. The characteristics of the data set involved in this research in terms of size and the presence of affine transformation add more challenges in finding the set of desirable matches.

Background: Pressure ulcer remains a significant problem in the healthcare system. In addition to the suffering it causes patients, it bears a growing financial burden. Although pressure ulcer prevention and care have improved in recent years, pressure ulcer still exists and occurs in both hospital and community settings. In Jordan, there are a handful of studies on pressure ulcer. This study aims to explore levels of knowledge and knowledge sources about pressure ulcer prevention, as well as barriers to implementing pressure ulcer prevention guidelines among Jordanian nurses. Methods: Using a cross-sectional study design and a self-administered questionnaire, data was collected from 194 baccalaureate and master’s level staff nurses working in eight Jordanian hospitals. From September to October of 2011, their knowledge levels about pressure ulcer prevention and the sources of this knowledge were assessed, along with the barriers which reduce successful pressure ulcer care and prevention. ANOVA and t-test analysis were used to test the differences in nurses’ knowledge according to participants’ characteristics. Means, standard deviation, and frequencies were used to describe nurses’ knowledge levels, knowledge sources, and barriers to pressure ulcer prevention. Results: The majority (73%, n = 141) of nurses had inadequate knowledge about pressure ulcer prevention. The mean scores of the test for all participants was 10.84 out of 26 (SD = 2.3, range = 5–17), with the lowest score in themes related to PU etiology, preventive measures to reduce amount of pressure/shear,and risk assessment. In-service training was the second source of education on pressure ulcer, coming after university training. Shortage of staff and lack of time were the most frequently cited barriers to carrying out pressure ulcer risk assessment, documentation, and prevention. Conclusions: This study highlights concerns about Jordanian nurses’ knowledge of pressure ulcer prevention. The results of the current study showed inadequate knowledge among Jordanian nurses about pressure ulcer prevention based on National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel guidelines. Also, the low level of nurses’ pressure ulcer knowledge suggests poor dissemination of pressure ulcer knowledge in Jordan, a suggestion supported by the lack of relationship between years of experience and pressure ulcer knowledge.
