The renewable and sustainable energy engineering specialization is considered one of the most important engineering specializations in demand today in the labor market, as it reduces dependence on imports, allowing countries to diversify their economies and protect them from unexpected fluctuations in fossil fuel prices, while driving comprehensive economic growth, creating job opportunities, and reducing the severity of poverty.

The major is one of the fastest growing and most studied majors in the world, which means it will provide great job opportunities for advancement in the field of engineering.

According to US Labor Bureau statistics, photovoltaic jobs are expected to grow by 63% and wind turbine jobs by 57% at a rate of 1,400 jobs per year through 2030.

This specialization is concerned with studying various renewable and sustainable energy systems from an applied technical perspective and includes studying solar energy systems, both photovoltaic and thermal, as well as wind energy, thermal energy, bioenergy, waste management, in addition to hybrid systems and energy management.

The major qualifies its graduates to work in the fields of electrical engineering, mechanical energy engineering, and renewable and sustainable energy engineering.

Graduates can join renewable energy and electricity distribution companies, the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Authority, international institutions concerned with environmental preservation and green buildings, the International Renewable Energy Agency, and regional projects such as “NEOM” in Saudi Arabia and “Masdar City” for renewable and sustainable energy in the Emirates, and Green hydrogen storage companies.
